Monitoring Mesocarnivore Population Status
نویسنده
چکیده
Monitoring is all the rage. It is considered an essential step in adaptive management and almost every meeting of a scientific society includes a session on monitoring. Monitoring is a requisite of each National Forest Land Management Plan and can be a condition for acceptance of a Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP), as specified under the Endangered Species Act. Despite government mandates, increasing scientific discussion, and the ethical responsibility of doing so, very few terrestrial monitoring programs have been established and considerable debate and disagreement exists as to what qualifies as monitoring, how it is done, and how monitoring data are used to assist decision making (e.g. Verner and Kie 1988, stout 1993, Montgomery 1995, Noon, in review). 2)

Variable Effects of Snow Conditions Across Boreal Mesocarnivore Species
Mesocarnivores are increasingly recognized as key drivers of community dynamics, but the effects of bottom-up and abiotic factors on mesocarnivore populations remain poorly understood. We evaluated the effects of snow conditions, prey abundance, and habitat type on the distribution of five sympatric mesocarnivore species in interior Alaska using repeated snow track surveys and occupancy modelli...
متن کاملDoes Habitat Heterogeneity in a Multi-Use Landscape Influence Survival Rates and Density of a Native Mesocarnivore?
The relationships between predators, prey, and habitat have long been of interest to applied and basic ecologists. As a native Great Plains mesocarnivore of North America, swift foxes (Vulpes velox) depended on the historic disturbance regime to maintain open grassland habitat. With a decline in native grasslands and subsequent impacts to prairie specialists, notably the swift fox, understandin...

Mesopredator control has long been used to alleviate the effect of elevated predation pressure on vulnerable, threatened or valuable species. However, the convenience of using mesopredator controls is technically questionable and scientifically-sound research is therefore required to evaluate the impact of predation on prey case by case. In this study we evaluated the effect of the alteration o...
متن کاملImmunization and growth monitoring status of infants and mothers’
Introduction: Immunization and growth monitoring (GM) are the most important primary health cares (PHC) during infancy. Based on the results of national health survey in Iran, Hormozgan province has one of the poorest indices in immunization and GM in comparison with other provinces. The present study aimed at determining the status of these two important indices in infants and mothers’ aware...

The term "health inequalities" is not a descriptive one: it refers to discrepancies in morbidity and mortality, life expectancy, disability life adjusted years, etc that are due to differences in such factors as socioeconomic status, gender and race/ethnicity. Socio-economic inequalities are the differences in health status (e.g. disease prevalence and incidence rates) across various socio-econ...
